Sino-Brazilian Jet Project Mutually Beneficial: Vice-premier

A joint venture project between China and Brazil to develop a turbofan regional jet aircraft will be mutually beneficial to both countries, Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said on Monday.

A joint venture project between China and Brazil to develop a turbofan regional jet aircraft will be mutually beneficial to both countries, Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo said on Monday.

Wu extended his congratulations on the agreement in a meeting with Sergio Amaral, Brazilian minister of development, industry and foreign trade, and his party.

The aviation industry was one of the high-tech industries China planned to actively develop and the cooperation between the two countries would lead the development of China's aviation industry, he said.

The project reflected a new development in Sino-Brazilian friendship, he noted, and it was to be hoped that the cooperation would become a successful model of cooperation.

The Brazilian aviation industry had rich experience in developing regional aircraft, while the Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation under the China Aviation Industry Corporation II was a backbone firm in China's aviation industry, with great experience in international cooperation, Wu said. The two sides would work closely to facilitate the project and provide products to meet both domestic and international markets as early as possible.

Sergio Amaral said this project had drawn attention and won support from the Brazilian government as an important development opportunity for both sides. The board of directors of the Brasileira De Aeronautica Sa Empresa (Embraer) had ratified the project and the Brazilian side would make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to make the project a success.

After the meeting, the two sides held a signing ceremony for the project.
