The troops of Cote d'Ivoire on Sunday entered a town in western part of the country which was held by the rebels, said a military officer.
However, the government forces have not yet controlled all of the town named Man, said the military spokesman.
The town of Man was captured by the rebels three days ago.
The Sept. 19 uprising in Cote d'Ivoire, the world's largest cocoa producer, has claimed hundreds of lives and left tens of thousands of people homeless.
