Thousands of people marched in Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart Saturday to protest against Australia's possible involvement in a military attack on Iraq.

According to the Australian Associated Press, that was part of a national weekend of action and on Sunday, residents in Melbourne,Brisbane, Darwin and Perth will rally.
In Sydney, the biggest city in the country, the protesters wereestimated to number more than 10,000.
The trade unions were reportedly taking a prominent role on theissue because working men and women and their families were the victims of war around the world.
The Howard government hopes publicly the Iraqi problem to be fixed through the United Nations but it was widely believed if theUnited States launches a war, Australia will decisively join in it.
