China's first group of young volunteers on service abroad have been honored for their contribution to development in Laos, where they have just completed six months of service.

The five young people gave a briefing on their voluntary work here Friday at a symposium held by the Central Committee of Communist Youth League of China and the Chinese Young Volunteers Association (CYVA).
Under the overseas service plan of the CYVA, prominent young volunteers are selected from the public for service abroad, while foreign volunteers are introduced to work in China's poor areas.
The five offered training courses to Laotian people in Chinese,English, computer and medical skills.
Cui Bo, secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Communist Youth League, issued certificates to the group, saying the overseas service plan helped broaden the international understanding of young people.
Khamvone Phanouvong, counselor of the Laotian Embassy in China,expressed sincere gratitude to the volunteers as well as to the Central Committee of Communist Youth League. He said more volunteers would be welcomed in Laos.
