A 30-year-old man has confessed to police he was responsible for poisoning 70 children and two teachers at a kindergarten in Wuchuan, south China's Guangdong Province.

On November 25, the kindergarten children and teachers fell ill after lunch and were sent to hospital for emergency treatment. They were found to have been poisoned with "Dushuqiang," a banned rat killer that was also used in a mass poisoning in Nanjing in September.

Around 4:10 a.m. yesterday, police arrested Huang Hu, a self-employed doctor and kindergarten operator. Huang confessed that he had acted because of jealousy at the success of a neighboring kindergarten, the Kangle No. 2 Kindergarten in Huangpo Town.

On the evening of November 24, Huang broke into the kitchen of the rival kindergarten and put the rat poison in the salt, he told the police.

Nobody has died in the accident so far, and all the victims are in stable conditions, according to official sources.
