Russia-China Cooperation Key for World Peace, Security: Ivanov

The creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was a vivid example of the fruitful cooperation in international arena, said the minister on the eve of President Vladimir Putin's China visit scheduled on Dec. 1-3.
Ivanov said the SCO's main task was to deepen cooperation among its member states in ensuring peace and setting up an new international political and economic order based on the principles of democracy and justice.
Ivanov said Moscow highly appreciated its cooperation with Beijing in the anti-terrorism sphere. Along with the existing working group, the two sides are going to create a regional anti-terrorism organization within the SCO framework, whose key role is to fight terrorism in Central Asia, he wrote.
The minister also noted positive tendency in the two countries' economic ties. Over the past two years, trade between the two countries had seen remarkable growth with a record high of 10.67 billion US dollars in 2001, he added.
"These and other figures suggest that full-fledged relations between the two economies have been taking shape," the minister wrote.
Russian senior official praises bilateral relations with China
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said Thursday that Russian-Chinese relations are advancing in all directions.
In an interview with the Itar-tass news agency, Losykov said the efficient work of an exchange mechanism between the two countries has helped promote development of bilateral ties.
"Moscow does not have such a comprehensive mechanism with any other country of the world," said the deputy minister, citing regular meetings between top leaders of the two countries, as wellas regular contacts between key cabinet ministers.
Presidents of Russia and China have met twice since this year and more than 70 Russian official delegations have visited China, he said.
Losyukov, who is in charge of Asian affairs, made the remarks on the eve of President Vladimir Putin's visit to China scheduled for December 1-3, which he said would be a milestone for bilateral relations.
Noting that economic cooperation is a significant aspect in bilateral relations, Losykov said bilateral trade this year would reach an unprecedented figure of over 11 billion US dollars.
"We have begun or been close to the implementation of several major projects in the spheres of oil and gas, science and technology and aluminum industry," he said.
The official also hailed closer Russian-Chinese cooperation in all major global issues. The two countries are jointly playing a key role in the fight against terrorism, in Central Asia issues, he said. The two countries have good cooperation in safeguarding strategic stability and coping with new challenges and threats, he added.
