Senior CPC Official Meets Sri Lankan Guests

Huang Ju, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Wednesday with a delegation from the United National Party (UNP) of Sri Lanka, headed by its Vice-President Dava Pelpola.

Huang Ju Meets with Vice-President of the United National Party of Sri Lanka
Huang Ju, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Wednesday with a delegation from the United National Party (UNP) of Sri Lanka, headed by its Vice-President Dava Pelpola.

He began by lauding the recently-concluded 16th CPC National Congress, adding that as the first CPC national congress held in the new century, it is "very significant" that the party began implementation of the third phase in its socialist modernization construction drive.

Pelpola's party conveyed congratulations on the national congress and to Hu Jintao on his election as the general secretaryof the CPC Central Committee, for which Huang expressed appreciation.

The friendly cooperation between China and Sri Lanka dates backmore than a thousand years ago, Huang said, noting that the bilateral ties have entered into a new stage since they established diplomatic relations.

China and Sri Lanka have supported each other in many major international affairs, and their exchange and cooperation in various fields has expanded and deepened, he said.

Huang said the Chinese government is willing to develop the friendly cooperative ties with the government of Sri Lanka on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and the CPC is also willing to continue its contacts and cooperation with the UNP under the principle of independence, full equality, mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, so as to better understanding and friendship.

Pelpola said he agreed with Huang's opinions on the ties between two countries and parties.

He said he and his colleagues are very impressed by the achievements of the CPC in rejuvenating the Chinese nation, and hebelieved that the traditional friendship between his country and China will continue to move forward in the new century.

Huang also briefed the guests on China's domestic situation andanswered questions raised by the guests.
