Chinese Ambassador to France Wu Jianmin said Tuesday in Paris that Shanghai is the best choice to host the World Exposition in 2010, reaffirming that China spares no efforts in making Shanghai Expo a win-win event.

Wu made this remark at a joint press conference with Russian, Mexican, Polish and ROK ambassadors whose countries also support their cities to bid for the event.

"Among 6 billion habitants on the planet, 5 billion live in the developing world. However, during its 151 years of existence, the World Exposition has never been held in a developing country," said Wu.

He underlined that as the largest developing country, China has witnessed the fastest growth in the past 20 years.

"If Shanghai wins the bid, there will be at least 70 million Chinese and foreign visitors to the exposition, which will mark an unprecedented scale in the history of the event," he said.

The Chinese government will make Shanghai Expo 2010 a win-win event for both developing and developed countries, said the ambassador.

"For developed countries, Shanghai Expo offers excellent opportunities. For developing countries, China will take a series of measures to assure their participation," he said.

China will provide free exposition space, free transport of articles and free international trips and accommodation for participants from the developing countries, he said.

"In the globalizing world, the developing countries are often marginalized. But they will not be marginalized during Shanghai Expo 2010," said the Chinese ambassador.

"The Shanghai Expo has an excellent theme -- 'Better City, Better Life.' The urbanism is a common problem faced by all cities in the world. Participants will have much to share during Shanghai Expo," said Wu.

Wu also said that Shanghai is characteristic of an all-inclusive city where Eastern civilization and Western civilization meet and converge.

"Shanghai Expo will add splendor to the dialogue of civilizations and therefore contribute to the peace and prosperity of the world," he said.

On Dec. 3, the Bureau of International Exposition (BIE) will vote at its 132nd general assembly to choose the host city of the Expo 2010 among five candidate cities: Shanghai, Moscow, the Mexico City of Mexico, Wroclow of Poland and Yeoso of the Republic of Korea.
