Visiting Chinese Vice-Premier Li Lanqing said Tuesday in Zagreb that China hopes to work with Croatia and other countries across the world to create a better political environment for world peace and development.
Li made the remarks during a meeting with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic. Li said China considers all countries, regardless of their sizes, should have the equal right to participate in international affairs.
The Chinese vice-premier thanked the Croatian side for its support on the issue of Taiwan.
Li began his visit to Croatia on Saturday. During his stay in Croatia, he met and held talks with Croatian prime minister and deputy prime minister. He also met with Zlatko Tomcic, speaker of the Assembly of Croatia on Tuesday.
Li described his visit to Croatia as "fruitful" as the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in many areas, ranging from trade, education, culture, public health to tourism.
President Mesic said he agreed with what Li said of bilateral relations. He said the Croatian side is keen to expand cooperation with China. The president visited China earlier this year.
Croatia is the first leg of Li's tour which will take him to Slovakia and France as well. He will also attend a meeting of the Bureau of International Expositions in Monaco that will decide the host city of the World Expo 2010.
