The African Union (AU) has approved a donation of 100,000 US dollars from its peace fund to support the peace talks between the government of Cote d'Ivoire and the rebels, according to a statement available in Abidjan on Monday.
The statement said the AU fund is aimed at promoting the peace process in Cote d'Ivoire, which has been ravaged by the revolt since its outbreak on Sept. 19.
The peace talks, which began on Oct. 30 in Lome, the Togolese capital, have made little progress this week. The mediators are working on a new plan to end the crisis in Cote d'Ivoire.
The uprising in the world's largest cocoa producer has claimed hundreds of lives and left tens of thousands of people homeless.
