Juan Antonio Samaranch said New York has a good chance to host the 2012 Olympic Games, local newspaper reported.
"New York is the most well-known city in the world. It's the most international city in the world," Samaranch was quoted as saying by Newsday in Sunday's editions.
"New York will be one of the front-runners."
Samaranch, former president of the International Olympic Committee, said 65 percent of the profits from television rights come from U.S. networks and seven of the top 10 Olympic sponsors are U.S. companies.
The IOC will choose a site in 2005. Other potential candidates are Moscow, London, Paris, Toronto, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul and Budapest.
