There are only 11 days to go before the final vote for the city in which the World Expo 2010 is going to be held. Of the five applicant cities in the world including Shanghai China whichever is going to carry off the laurel has arrested the attention of many a people.

Person in charge of applying for the World Expo with the Department of Exhibition of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) said, the work for bidding is now at the touch-and-go stage. The Chinese government and people are very much confident of winning a success in the bidding.

As a comprehensive international exposition, the largest of its kind, the World Expo has witnessed a history of 151 years. With a large scope and scale and a profound influence it has been crowned as the "Olympic Games in the fields of economy, culture and technology".

The responsible person said, "If the World Expo can be held in China, a country with one fifth of the world's population and exerting bigger and bigger influence in international community the Expo is a very good promotion for itself and good at enriching, developing and improving it."

As an ancient country with a history of 5000 years in the orient of the world, China enjoys a broad and profound culture while Shanghai stands out a dragon-head in the economic development in east China. Over the past 10 years, it has witnessed an annual increase of over 10 percent and it is a renowned cosmopolis of the world. Therefore, the World Expo to be held in Shanghai will help offer it a profound accumulation of Chinese culture and full compatibility, thereby making the World Expo more appealing and attractive.

During the past 150 years and more the developing countries were barred out of the way for the lack of enough strength in holding it. However, China, as a developing country, the largest of the sort in the world has become stronger in comprehensive strength after a development of over 20 years. If China succeeds in the application for the World Expo it will help raise the determination of the developing countries in the bidding for it. And with a unique appealing effect it will help draw in a lot of developing countries to take a part in it, thereby widening the influence of the World Expo on the whole globe.

China has very rich experience in the handling of large-scale expositions. China succeeded in holding the Int'l Horticultural Expo 1999 in Kunming, Yunnan Province. And after China joining the WTO for about a year Shanghai has been hosting exhibitions almost one for everyday and we see an annual increase of 20 percent of large-scale int'l expositions in Shanghai, and so it is the most flourishing and booming city for exhibitions and conventions in China.

"In 2010, China is to be a more prosperous country with steadier social order and richer experience in hosting exhibitions." As learned, the Chinese government has expressed clearly that it will provide enough financial support to the World Expo in Shanghai, pledging that it provide 100 million-US dollars for helping those economically weaker countries to take their part in it. And in the meanwhile it will adopt some measures for reducing the cost of exhibitors from developed countries. Jiang Yiren, the permanent vice-mayor of Shanghai has also expressed that Shanghai is making efforts to detail and improve all sorts of preferential measures for reducing the exhibitors' cost. Notwithstanding, Shanghai is ready to use 20 million-US dollars for awarding country's and regional exhibition halls and booths with prizes by making an assessment from among them.

The Chinese people also expressed their enthusiastic support for the holding of the World Expo with a national supporting rate of as high as 90 percent. While in Shanghai, the rate is even higher as to reach 93 percent with 86 percent of Shanghai residents willing to be volunteer-workers for the World Expo. At the same time, many renowned enterprises domestic and overseas are out one in the wake of the other to serve as back-up groups, taking an active part in the work for the bid and willing to provide any support whenever and whatever necessary.
