Implementing Basic Law Article 23 Necessary: Spokesman

The proposal to implement Article 23 of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is a necessary step taken in accordance with the law by the SAR government, a spokesman of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in HKSAR said Friday.

The proposal to implement Article 23 of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is a necessary step taken in accordance with the law by the SAR government, a spokesman of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in HKSAR said Friday.

Commenting on a statement issued by the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and the British Consulate-general in Hong Kong on legislation of the Article 23, the spokesman said it is the internal affairs of China and the HKSAR. It is unacceptable for any foreign government and organization, including Britain, to interfere in, he stressed.
