Reverent Tibetan Living Buddha Passes Away

Living Buddha Bomi Qambalozhub, who is vice-chairman of the Buddhist Association of China (BAC) and president of the BAC Tibetan Branch, passed away Wednesday at the age of 85.

Living Buddha Bomi Qambalozhub, who is vice-chairman of the Buddhist Association of China (BAC) and president of the BAC Tibetan Branch, passed away Wednesday at the age of 85.

It was Qambalozhub who had the honor of drawing lots from the golden urn to select the 11th Panchen Lama on Nov. 29, 1995.

Qambalozhub began his monkhood at the age of eight, and obtained the most reverent Tibetan Buddhist degree at Jokhang Monastery in Lhasa in 1959. He spent his later years tutoring senior Buddhist monks at the monastery.

He was a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) as well as a StandingCommittee member of the CPPCC Tibet Autonomous Regional Committee.
