Healthy Growth Forecast for China's IT Industry

Production by China's electronic and information technology sector is expected to hit 1.65 trillion yuan (198.8 billion US dollars) this year, up from 1.3 trillion yuan (156.53 billion dollars) last year.

Production by China's electronic and information technology sector is expected to hit 1.65 trillion yuan (198.8 billion US dollars) this year, up from 1.3 trillion yuan (156.53 billion dollars) last year.

Sales of software at Chinese markets are predicted to be 250 billion yuan (30.1 billion US dollars) by the year of 2005, of which 60 percent will be China-made software and related services, the Economic Daily newspaper reported Thursday.

By then, software exports will reach 5 billion US dollars and the country should have a dozen software backbone companies, said the newspaper in a forecast on the IT industry.

IT had developed rapidly and gained momentum since the country was admitted into the World Trade Organization (WTO) a year ago.

China has 200 million fixed telephone subscribers, 190 million mobile phone subscribers, as well as about 50 million net surfers.
