South Korea and DPRK on Wednesday agreed to jointly conduct land surveys to finalize the connecting points of inter-Korean railways from Nov. 26-30.
At working-level talks on road and railway reconnection held from Monday at the North's Mt. Geumgang, the two sides agreed on the measure, which is needed to decide where the rails of the two Koreas will meet exactly.
On Nov. 26-27, the two sides will conduct a joint survey on the Donghae Line on the East Coast, and the same will follow for the Gyeongui Line Nov. 29-30.
The makeshift road running along the Donghae Line will open in December as agreed earlier, and the Koreas also agreed to sign a road safety pact by the end of this month in order to prevent and deal with auto accidents on the first-ever inter-Korean road since 1953.
Cars must run a pre-declared and approved route on the cross-border road, and violation of traffic laws on either side will constitute revocation of the driving permit in the zone.
In the meantime, working-level talks on maritime transportation of the Koreas, also held at Mt. Geumgang, produced no tangible results. Seoul and Pyongyang officials have agreed to hold the next round of talks in December.
