China's special envoy Wang Shijie's visit to the Middle East has yielded positive results, says Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan.
Wang's visit made clear to various parties China's views on its positive role in the Middle East peace process within the framework of the United Nations, Kong said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.
He said the parties concerned welcomed Wang's visit and the expectations of a more positive role by China in this regard. They also promised to keep in close contact and cooperate with China's special envoy.
During his visit from Nov. 6 to 14, Wang held in-depth meetings with foreign ministers and other senior officials from Palestine, Israel, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt. He briefed them on China's principles and attitude to the Middle East peace process, and urged the resumption of peace talks, Kong said.
Wang also met with Amr Mahmoud Moussa, general-secretary of the League of Arab States, and held talks with Middle East special envoys from the European Union, the United States, Russia and the United Nations, Kong said.
Kong added that Wang would brief the media on his visit later this week.
