The Bahamas-registered oil tanker " Prestige" has leaked about 3,000 tons of fuel oil into the sea off the coast of Spain.

Prestige, carrying 77,000 tons of oil, ran around off Galicia in northwestern Spain, due to strong winds on Wednesday.

The 27-member Dutch crew was rescued by salvage ships and helicopters sent by the Spanish government.

The tanker was then towed by four tugs out to open sea 120 kilometers from the coast.

However, Spanish officials are worried the ship could break up at any moment, causing more environmental pollution in the area.
