Libya will not Quit Arab League: Moussa
Arab League chief Amr Moussa said on Thursday Libya will not quit the 22-member pan-Arab forum, to the relief of many member states that Libya's withdrawal may produce a "snowball" effect.
Arab League chief Amr Moussa said on Thursday Libya will not quit the 22-member pan-Arab forum, to the relief of many member states that Libya's withdrawal may produce a "snowball" effect.
"Libya will not withdraw from the Arab League," Moussa told reporters, while dismissing as "groundless" reports about Qatar's intention to leave the pan-Arab organization.
On Oct. 24, Libya informed the Arab League of its intended departure.
A few days later, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited Libyato persuade Libyan leader Muammar Ghaddafi to reconsider its decision.
Ghaddafi at that time declined Mubarak's appeal, saying the decision is serious.
"Why should we remain as a member of an ineffective organization?" Ghaddafi questioned, calling for an Arab policy of common defense and economic unity.
Libya had previously claimed that it would withdraw from the league owing to its inefficiency in dealing with Arab issues, especially the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
