Kunitake Ando, president and chief operating officer of Sony Corporation, said Tuesday in Hong Kong that his company will change its promotion strategy in China in order for new products to be launched simultaneously on the Chinese mainland and in Japan.
Speaking at a press conference, he said, "In the past, we will launch new products in Japan and then to the United States and finally to China, but now, we will launch new products in Japan and China at the same time."
Ando also said the company will not revise downwards its PC shipment forecast of 4.4 million US dollars for the year 2002 despite reported drops in shipments of other makers, adding that Sony's PC products are unique, making it less vulnerable to market downturn.
For Hong Kong, he said there is ample room for development of the broad-band market, noting that Hong Kong is a gateway to China's mainland, and it has a strong presence in music and movie production.
