Gates to Invest 20 Billion Rupees in India in 3 Years

Microsoft chief Bill Gates Tuesday announced a 20 billion rupee (412 million US dollars) investment plan for India over the next three years.

Microsoft chief Bill Gates Tuesday announced a 20 billion rupee (412 million US dollars) investment plan for India over the next three years.

Gates told reporters on the second day of his four-day visit to India that his company would invest 400 million dollars over the next three years in several areas including education, partnerships, innovations, localization and development centers.

He said, "As we enter the digital decade, the opportunities before us to drive innovations are immense."

This presents a unique role for the government of India to create a vibrant knowledge based economy that encourages innovation and is built on deep partnership with local software organizations, developers and companies like Microsoft, he added.
