Jordanian Foreign Minister Marwan Moasher on Monday hailed China's decision to send a peace envoy to the Middle East, which he said bears special significance to the peace process in the region.
During a meeting with Wang Shijie, a veteran diplomat and China's first Mideast peace envoy, Moasher said Jordan welcomes the efforts by the world community to promote the Mideast peace process and will strengthen its links with China in Mideast affairs.
Moasher said the Arab peace initiative adopted at the March Arab summit in Beirut reflected the common will for peace of the Arab nation, and Jordan welcomes serious international efforts to defuse the tensions in the region and promote the peace process.
For his part, Wang said China appreciate Jordan's Mideast policy and stands for a just, durable and comprehensive solution to the Mideast crisis on the basis of relevant UN resolutions and the principle of land for peace.
He said the Mideast peace could not prevail unless the rights of the Arab people, particularly the Palestinians, are restored and the security of Israel is guaranteed.
He stressed that an early solution to the current crisis would be conducive to peace and stability for all nations in the region, including Jordan.
Wang arrived in Amman on the fourth leg of his Mideast tour, which has taken him to Egypt, Lebanon and Syria. He is also to visit Israel and Palestinian self-rule areas.
