A senior delegate of the ongoing Chinese Communist Party Congress states that, as Hong Kong and Macao have already returned to the motherland, China will try to resolve the Taiwan question as soon as possible in an effort to realize an early reunification.
Attending group discussions of the Party Congress, Vice Premier Qian Qichen says party members all expressed their support for the central government's policy on the Taiwan issue. They all applauded warmly as Jiang Zemin evoked the issue in his speech delivered at the opening session of the Congress.
Qian Qichen notes that cross-straits relations are intensifying with growing economic and commercial exchanges between the two.
He also stressed the One-China principle which remains the basis for cross-straits discussions.
