HK Newspapers Speak Highly of Jiang's Report
Hong Kong newspapers Saturday devoted front pages to the opening of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing and Jiang Zemin's report at the congress.

Ta Kung Pao, a century-old newspaper, which ran eight full pages to the coverage of the congress, described Jiang's report asa great guiding document for the CPC and the Chinese people in thenew century.
That the congress has established the important thought of Three represents as the guiding principle for the years to come isone of the major achievements of the CPC meeting, it said in a commentary.
An editorial carried by Wen Wei Po said Jiang's report has affirmed Hong Kong's return to the motherland as enriching "one country, two systems" in both theory and practice, as well as extending full support to safeguarding and promoting prosperity, stability and development in Hong Kong.
It said, the congress has become a hot topic for Hong Kong residents, which indicates their concern to state affairs and an increasing attention to CPC as a ruling party of the country.
Hong Kong Commercial Daily News filed a commentary, saying thatthe Party congress has conveyed a message that by the year 2020, China's gross domestic product will quadruple the 2000 figure; China will build a well-off society in an all-rounded way and people's life will improve more over the current level.
Setting this goal means a serious promise of the Party to the Chinese people and is also a demonstration of the Party's confidence in mastering the future, the paper said.
