Police Say Bombs in Bali Assembled on the Island

The investigation team on Bali blasts said Friday the bombs exploded in the nightclubs had been possibly made in Bali to avoid risk of premature explosions during the delivery.

The investigation team on Bali blasts said Friday the bombs exploded in the nightclubs had been possibly made in Bali to avoid risk of premature explosions during the delivery.

"We keep hunting the location where the bombs were constructed," team's spokesman Edward Aritonang was quoted by Detikcom online news service as saying in Bali.

He added the bombs were equipped with timer, which if was set outside Bali would increase the risk of prematurely exploding.

He also said foreign countries were possibly involved in supplying the explosive device that includes RDX.

"In Indonesia RDX is banned from trading. Other country might have supplied the material," he said without elaborating.

Separately the head of the Indonesian Investigation Team, General I Made Mangku Pastika, said that the explosive device usedin the bombing also included ammonium nitrate, a chemical that canbe used for making fertilizer.

He underlined that the prime suspect identified as Amrozi had admitted to buying it at a chemical store in Surabaya, capital of East Java province.

The Oct. 12 bombing ripped through a packed nightclub, killing nearly 200 people, mostly Australians. More than 300 others were injured.
