Six people died and 33 were injured on Tuesday in a motorway pile-up in western France involving dozens cars and trucks, including one carrying liquid nitrogen that burst into flames.
Police said six of the injured were still in a critical condition. The A10 motorway near the city of Poitiers was cut off in both directions for hours after the crash, which happened around 9:30 a.m.
Local authorities blamed heavy fog for reducing visibility on the route but eyewitnesses pointed to thick smoke coming from a factory nearby as a possible cause.
