Beijing Goes All Out to Provide Service & Ensure Security for 16th Party Congress

Beijing Municipality has got everything ready to provide service and ensure security for the upcoming 16th CPC National Congress. Making Preparation For The 16th Party Congress

As the 16th Party Congress is nearing, Beijing Municipality has got everything ready to provide service and ensure security for the 16th CPC National Congress. Liu Qi, Party secretary and mayor of Beijing, recently made a special inspection, stressing it is a glorious political task for the capital's citizens to provide services for the 16th Party Congress, and asking the whole city to see to it that the work of security, stability, enthusiasm and sanitation be done well and ensure that nothing goes wrong.

As noticed, the city's streets and lanes are newly decorated, presenting a neat and clean, beautiful, civilized and orderly outlook. Sources from Beijing Municipal Administration Committee say that 1 million yuan was invested last month in the thorough cleanup of the vestiges of chewing gums at Tiananmen Square by professional cleaning companies. And since Nov.1, the night lighting facilities have been opened to the public. When nights fall and lights are lit, Tiananmen Square becomes ablaze, and China's first street---Chang'an Avenue and its extended line with a cluster of over 160 tall, well-lighted buildings--turns into a luminous art corridor. The capital at night looks resplendent, lustrous and brilliant everywhere.

In order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, Beijing public transport and subway systems have drawn up a well-conceived plan on vehicles, coach numbers, lines and service time. And special vehicles undertaking transport service during the event have passed the safety examination conducted by related departments. Every day these vehicles are cleaned, sterilized and even decorated and beautified with fresh flowers. Ma Jun, a bus driver with the Capital Bus Co. Ltd., who has provided transport service from the 11th straight to the 15th Party Congress, and this time he again has the honor to take upon himself the task of serving the 16th Party Congress. He said proudly, "I will certainly do my bid for the upcoming 16th Party Congress with safe and quality services."

Guesthouses and hotels, responsible for receiving delegates to the Congress, have also made careful preparations. Comprehensive examination and repair of such facilities as restaurants and hotel rooms have been conducted in advance, and recipes worked out to cater for different regions and ethnic groups. Commercial departments have kept a good stock of commodities, while quarantine professionals with health administration departments have carried out an overall inspection of food and raw materials in aspects of the sources of goods, transport, storage and cooking, with an eye to guaranteeing food safety. And supplies of water, electricity, gas and heating have also been well arranged, with appropriative adjustments made in light of the climatic change, so as to guarantee normal supply and safe operation. Furthermore, places of airport and railway stations as well as systems of post, telecommunication, tourism, and departments of public utilities all have made meticulous preparations for the gala event.
