Arafat Hails Amnesty International's Revealing of Israeli Crimes
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat hailed on Monday the report of the Amnesty International that accused Israel of committing war crimes against the Palestinians in the West Bank towns of Jenin and Nablus.
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat hailed on Monday the report of the Amnesty International that accused Israel of committing war crimes against the Palestinians in the West Bank towns of Jenin and Nablus.
"It (the Amnesty International report) is very important and reveals the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people," Arafat told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
He said he hopes the report would be interesting for the QuartetCommittee (the United States, Russia, the United Nations and the European Union) which would convene within the coming days.
Dozens of Palestinians were killed and wounded, and dozens of homes were destroyed in both Nablus and Jenin when the Israeli armycarried out the widespread military strike of the Defensive Shield Operation.
"Does the world accept the attacks carried out against our people on daily bases such as assassinating, killings and keeping millions of people indoors under curfew for several months?" Arafatasked.
The Palestinian people are facing "real elimination and ethnic cleansing war," he said, calling upon Arabs and Christians all overthe world to "move and support the just cause of the Palestinian people."
Asked about the new formation of the Israeli government after Israel's Labor Party left the coalition, Arafat said it is not his responsibility, adding that it is "completely internal Israeli issue."
"What we are expecting from any Israeli government is the accurate implementation of all the agreements we signed together," said Arafat.
