China, Laos Sign Document on Highway Program in Laos

China and Laos Sunday signed a protocol on China's assistance to Laos in building the Laotian section of the Kunming (China)-Bangkok (Thailand) Highway.

China and Laos Sunday signed a protocol on China's assistance to Laos in building the Laotian section of the Kunming (China)-Bangkok (Thailand) Highway.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji, who is here on an official visit to Cambodia. The document was signed by Shi Guangsheng, minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of China, and Laotian Vice-Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Somsavat Lengsavad.

The program was signed for building the partial section within the Laotian territory of the highway running from Kunming province in southwest China to the Thai capital of Bangkok.

China and Laos have also signed the Agreement on Economic and Technological Cooperation on the same occasion, under which China will provide economic assistance to Laos.
