Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji said Sunday that China is always ready to provide Cambodia with all possible aid it can during the process of national reconciliation and economic construction in Cambodia.
Zhu held separate talks with Cambodian Senate President Chea Sim and President of the Cambodian National Assembly Norodom Ranarith on Sunday.
Zhu said it's glad to see that Cambodia has maintained political stability and achieved economic development during the new period of peace construction in Cambodia.
He expressed the belief that "the Cambodian people will surely be able to overcome various challenges on the way ahead and build their country into a rich, strong and prosperous one."
He said he held friendly and fruitful talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen Saturday, and that both sides have achieved many common grounds and signed a number of agreements.
China attached much importance to its traditional friendship with Cambodia, Zhu said, adding that it will remain committed to developing a more stable and closer Sino-Cambodian relationship of cooperation.
He expressed appreciation for the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly's stance on upholding the one-China policy.
Chea Sim and Ranarith agreed that Zhu's current visit to Phnom Penh is of great significance, which will further push forward the traditional Sino-Cambodian friendship of cooperation in the new century.
The Chinese government and people have made valuable contribution to the political settlement of the Cambodian issue, its national reconciliation, and economic recovery and development, said the two Cambodian leaders.
They added that the current situation of peace and development in Cambodia has benefited a lot from the selfless assistance and support accorded by the Chinese people.
The two Cambodian leaders said the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly highly appreciated the Chinese government's decision to write off all the matured debts of Cambodia it owed to China, which fully demonstrated the friendly feeling that the Chinese government and people have accorded to the Cambodian people.
Chea Sim and Ranarith said the Cambodian Senate and the National Assembly will unswervingly uphold the one-China policy.
Zhu arrived here Friday on an official visit to Cambodia. He will attend several meetings between China and members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
The Chinese premier will also participate in the first summit of the Great Mekong Subregion (GMS) to be open Sunday afternoon. The GMS members are China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, which border the Mekong River.
