China to Buy Rubber from Thailand

China has agreed to purchase 58,000 tons of rubber from Thailand this year and will sign a future contract next year to purchase the product, Thai News Agency said Sunday.

China has agreed to purchase 58,000 tons of rubber from Thailand this year and will sign a future contract next year to purchase the product, Thai News Agency said Sunday.

Government spokesman Sitha Thivaree was quoted as saying on Saturday that the agreement was made during a meeting here this week between Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and a Chinese rubber trade delegation. China normally imports about 70,000 tons of rubber from Thailand annually.

Meanwhile, Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Newin Chidchob said that the selling price of the rubber would be around825 US dollars a ton, and the delivery of the first lot of 58,000 tons of rubber is expected in January 2003.
