The senior engineer for the Three Gorges Power Project is confident the damming of the man-made diversion canal of the power project on Nov. 6 will be successful, given the favorable hydrological and meteorological conditions along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
The senior engineer for the Three Gorges Power Project is confident the damming of the man-made diversion canal of the power project on Nov. 6 will be successful, given the favorable hydrological and meteorological conditions along the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
Zheng Shouren, chief engineer in the Yangtze River Water Conservancy Committee, said Friday that according to the recent hydrological forecast, the upper reaches of the river would see less rainfall before Nov. 6 when the damming is due for completion, leading to a less-than-expected flow volume.
Since most of the hydrological and meteorological conditions inthe coming days would be lower than originally estimated, the damming would be successful, said Zheng.
Even if hydrological conditions changed in the next few days, technical staff would be able to devise means to ensure the operation's success.
