Tung Elected to Head Presidium of HK NPC Deputies Electoral Conference
Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), was on Friday elected Executive Chairman of the Presidium of the Conference for Electing Deputies of the HKSAR to China's 10th National People's Congress.

Tung was chosen as the executive chairman at the first meeting of the 15-member presidium at the International Trademart, Lee Cho-jat, spokesman for the presidium, announced at a press briefing after the presidium meeting.
Tung's duty as the executive chairman is to preside over meetings of the presidium.
Speaking before the first session of the electoral conference, Tung said that since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, Hong Kong people have become masters not only of the HKSAR but of the country as a whole.
"Five years on, Hong Kong people have fostered an ever-growing concern with and love towards their motherland, with their sense of the country and of the nation continuously strengthening," Tungstated.
With the commencement of the election of the 10th NPC deputies in Hong Kong, representatives from Hong Kong will be chosen to thestate's top legislative body to participate in the discussion of major state affairs, the chief executive noted, before pointing out that this is an event of great significance, in which Hong Kong residents take great pride.
Tung pledged, "We will continue to forge ahead in this direction to make greater contributions to the HKSAR and the whole nation."
