Top Chinese Lawmaker Meets Malaysian Senate President

China will work for expansion of exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia and their parliaments, according to top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing on Thursday with a Malaysian parliamentary delegation headed by Michael Chen Wing Sum, Senate president in the Malaysian Parliament.

Bilateral ties had developed smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic relations 28 years ago, Li said.

He briefed the guests on the significance of the 16th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which will soon be held in Beijing.

Chen said well-developed relations between Malaysia and China would benefit regional stability and the people of both countries.

He suggested China and Malayasia, which share common views on many international issues, enhance consultations and cooperation to better deal with new challenges both in the Asian-Pacific area and other parts of the world.
