Yao Goes Through "a War" in His NBA Debut
The 2002 NBA top pick Yao Ming experienced "a war" in his official NBA debut with the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

"In all aspects, it felt like a war," Yao, who came from the bench to record two rebounds and three fouls in 11 minutes, told Chinese reporters through telephone interview after Rockets' 91-82defeat to the Indiana Pacers.

"I did just so so today," Yao said. "I was a little bit nervousand over excited because I knew that millions of people were watching this game."

Yao hoped to do better in the following games, especially in rebounding.

"I will try to grab as many rebounds as I can, do my best to provide strong support to our outside players," said the 2.26-meter center who was picked by the Rockets in June's NBA Draft. "That's what a center should do."

The Chinese international, who went to the United States after China's shocking loss to South Korea in the Asian Games final on October 14, was trying to get used to the NBA games.

"I have missed a month of pre-season training due to national duties. I hope I could get used to the NBA play in ten games."

Yao was a little disappointed in his debut but remained confident of his NBA future.

"I was a little bit sorry for my performance," Yao said. "But that's the reality I have to face."

"I will have my value recognized in several years."
