The Cuban government presented a new resolution Wednesday against an economic blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean country and the resolution is to be discussed at the UN General Assembly next month.
During the presentation, Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez said lifting the 40-year embargo would represent an element of regional and world integration and help eliminate interference with relations between Cuba, Latin America and the European Union.
Perez said his government considers this resolution a support to the efforts made by US congressmen, agricultural entrepreneurs and the majority of the Cuban community to modify the US policy toward Cuba.
"Everybody benefits from the lifting of the blockade save the Miami minority (Cuban exiles), who have profited from it," Perez said.
The resolution, presented to the United Nations for the 11th year in a row, rebukes Washington for its imposition on Cuba of sanctions, which have brought sufferings to the Cuban people and caused losses of more than 70 billion US dollars to the country.
According to this document, the recent sale of food products byUS producers to Havana without the intervention of President George W. Bush cannot be seen as a relaxation, for it was subject to a number of restrictions and numerous obstacles.
The text must be discussed on Nov. 12 at the UN General Assembly, which approved a similar document last year.
