At Least 48 Killed in Fire in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City

At least 48 persons were killed and more than 100 others injured on Tuesday in a large fire ensuing a blast in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, according to a source from Ho Chi Minh City.

At least 48 persons were killed and more than 100 others injured on Tuesday in a large fire ensuing a blast in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City, according to a source from Ho Chi Minh City.

Witnesses said the blast took place in Saigon Intershop at 1:50p.m.( local time) Tuesday. Flames from the second floor spread to the fifth of the building. When the whole building seemed to be plunged into a sea of fire, some people trapped in the building tried to escape by climbing down along the water pipeline or jumping down.

According to earlier reports reaching here, the Saigon Emergency Center had received 60 wounded people by 4:00 p.m..

It is said that when the blast occurred, an American insurance company was holding a training class with the attendance of more than 100 people. it is not clear till now whether there are any attendant of the class killed and injured.

The Fire Control Department of the Ho Chi Minh City has mobilized all its forces to try to put out the fire and rescue victims.

The cause of the blast and fire is not clear so far.

The Saigon Intershop, a five-floor building in District One, one of the busiest places in the Ho Chi Minh City.
