China and the United States have agreed to share responsibility in safeguarding peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world and in promoting global economic growth, Chinese President Jiang Zemin said in San Francisco Monday.
China and the United States have agreed to share responsibility in safeguarding peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world and in promoting global economic growth, Chinese President Jiang Zemin said in San Francisco Monday.
Jiang made the remarks at a luncheon hosted by San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. The Chinese president flew in earlier Monday for a technical stop-over after attending the 10th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Jiang recalled that he and US President George W. Bush had an in-depth exchange of views on China-US ties and major international and regional issues and reached broad consensus on the issues discussed at Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas.
Jiang said China and the United States have also agreed to cooperate in fighting against terrorism and preventing the proliferation of weapons of massive destruction.
He said both sides agreed to take positive actions to increase mutual trust and understanding, increase exchanges and cooperation, and promote the overall relationship between the two nations.
The Chinese president also praised the sisterly ties with Shanghai and San Francisco, saying such city-to-city contacts and cooperation constitute an important part of country-to-country relations.
Shortly after the luncheon, the Chinese president and his entourage left San Francisco for Beijing.
