Chief of the political committee in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Zeyad Abu Amer said Monday that the special session of the PLC to vote for the new cabinet formed by Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was postponed until a further notice.

Abu Amer told Xinhua that the PLC session, scheduled to be held on Monday and Tuesday to vote for the new cabinet of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), was postponed in protest for baring 10 Gaza members of the PLC to reach Ramallah to participate in the meeting.

This decision was taken in accordance to the official position of the PLC, the Palestinian leadership and president Yasser Arafat that the session would not be held without the full attendance of all the members, Abu Amer added.

Abu Amer noted that he and other Gaza PLC members have returned to Gaza aiming at opposing the Israeli position and calling upon the world to practice pressure on Israel to enable all members to attend the session.

The PLC members are parliamentarians, and according to the international law of parliaments, they have the right to have free access of movement, Abu Amer said, adding "today's session was partof what the world wants us to do of reforms."

He assured that there would be no sessions of the PLC until all members would be allowed to attend the session to vote for the new cabinet.

PLC Deputy speaker Ibrahim Abu Najja said earlier in the day that Israel would bar 10 PLC members from Gaza from attending the Ramallah meeting.

He said that the 33 Gaza Strip PLC members are discussing whether to go to attend the meeting without the 10 PLC members, or to stay all in Gaza and attend the meeting via video conferencing system.

The decision comes amid warnings from PLC Speaker Ahmed Qurea Abu Ala that the meeting would only be held if all of the members were allowed to attend.

During the last PLC session that was held in Ramallah on Sept. 11, Israel had denied the permission of 13 PLC members.

In return, all 33 Gaza Strip PLC members decided not to go to Ramallah in sympathy with their 13 colleagues, and hold a session in Gaza and contacted the session in Ramallah through video conferencing system.
