China Supports Nuclear-free Korean Peninsula: President
Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Sunday reiterated that China supports a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula, hoping that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States could settle their issues through dialogue.

Jiang made the remarks when meeting with South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung on the fringe of the 10th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum held in Los Cabos, a resort city on the tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula.
The Chinese president spoke highly of President Kim Dae-Jung's important contribution to the development of bilateral relations, especially the establishment of Sino-South Korean cooperative partnership.
On Korean Peninsula situation, Jiang stressed that it is China's consistent position to safeguard peace and stability in the peninsula.
The DPRK's nuclear weapons issue has recently drawn concerns across the world, Jiang said, adding that China supports a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and hopes the DPRK and the US could solve their issues concerned through dialogue.
Kim, for his part, congratulated Jiang on his successful visit to the US and briefed the Chinese leader of his views on the current situation in the Korean Peninsula.
