China is satisfied with its ties with Peru and ready to take practical steps to tighten bilateral friendly cooperation in a long-term, stable and overall manner, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said Sunday.

In a meeting here with his Peruvian counterpart Allan Wagner Tizon, Tang said Peru is one of the earliest Latin American countries to forge diplomatic ties with China.

Over the past 30 years or more, bilateral political ties have been good, and the economic and trade cooperation is fruitful, he said.

Noting Peru has become one of China's biggest trade partners and investment targets in Latin America, he said both sides maintain good cooperation in international affairs.

Wagner said Peru treasures its relationship with China and he highly spoke of China's constructive role in international affairs.

He said Peru hopes to further expand its economic and trade cooperation with China on the basis of the good political relations.

Tang is now accompanying Chinese President Jiang Zemin for the 10th Informal Leaders' Meeting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in Los Cabos.
