Chinese Wins FESPIC Games' First Gold Medal

Chinese athlete Guo Weizhong won the first gold medal of the 8th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC Games) when he took the men's F42-class long jump title Sunday.

Chinese athlete Guo Weizhong won the first gold medal of the 8th Far East and South Pacific Games for the Disabled (FESPIC Games) when he took the men's F42-class long jump title Sunday.

Guo, 26, cleared 4.08 meters to retain his FESPIC Games crown he won at the 1998 Games in Bangkok.

"I didn't expect to win the gold medal as I had focused on highjump for so long," Guo said after his victory.

"I'm not happy with my performance affected by the low temperature and windy weather. And I did not give my best shot asI had to reserve myself for my mainevent of high jump this afternoon," he added.

Kazuo Hatada, President of the FESPIC Games Federation, and Deng Pufang, President of the Chinese Federation for the Disabled Persons, awarded the gold medal and mascot respectively to the Chinese winner.
