Supachai: China Honors Well Its Promises to WTO
WTO Director-General Dr. Supachai made a television address Tuesday at the Global CEO Forum held in Beijing, saying the WTO has set about the progress review of China's commitment for WTO membership, and a satisfactory answer has been found as for protecting intellectual property rights.
WTO Director-General Dr. Supachai made a television address Tuesday at the Global CEO Forum held in Beijing, saying the WTO has set about the progress review of China's commitment for WTO membership, and a satisfactory answer has been found as for protecting intellectual property rights.
Dr. Supachai pointed out that as a WTO member, China should conform its trade and related policies to WTO rules, and in next eight years the Organization will carry out an annual examination over how China's WTO commitments proceed.
Currently 16 commissions under WTO as well as Chinese representatives to WTO are examining the progress made in honoring China's WTO promises, while work in market access, intellectual property rights and relative aspects have been already started. On the whole, China has done a good job, said Dr. Supachai, considering China has established necessary laws and regulations, and strengthened law-enforcement in intellectual property right protection, particularly at provincial levels.
Meanwhile, he noted that the only aspect that needs to be improved is that the Chinese government should inform immediately the WTO members of its justice construction as well as of the law-enforcement situations.
Dr. Supachai also believed China will make continuous headway and fulfill its promises to WTO, as the government has implemented large-scale reform, perfected gradually laws and regulations and attracted enormous investment at home and abroad in the past 15 years.
