World Largest Hydropower Station Launched in China

The Three Gorges Hydropower Station was lately formally founded at Yichang, Hubei Province, China. Known as the world largest, 26 large generator groups are to be installed under it, with an annual 84.6 billion kwh electricity supply expected.

The Three Gorges Hydropower Station was lately formally founded at Yichang, Hubei Province, China. Known as the world largest, 26 large generator groups are to be installed under it, with an annual 84.6 billion kwh electricity supply expected.

Three Gorges Hydropower Station as learned is affiliated to China Changjiang Electrogenerating Corporation lately inaugurated as with Gezhouba Hydropower Station under it with an annual amount of 13.8 billion kwh of electricity produced.

According to the construction plan of the Three Gorges Project, Three Gorges Hydropower Station will be completed and put into operation in October next year. There will be two generator groups to be put into operation with a 700,00 kwh generating capacity and an annual amount of 5.5 billion kwh of electricity to be provided by October and December next year, respectively. Another three to four generator groups will be launched from 2004 to 2009, with an annual generating capacity to match a new Gezhouba Hydropower Station to be launched.

Three Gorges Hydropower Station is situated in an area on the route of "moving coal south from north" and "sending west electricity east" as the most ideal source ground facilitating China's electricity supply. Its power transmission line in central China be merely within 500km and a distance of no more than 1000 km in east China, at a point guaranteeing stable inter-region electricity supply in China.
