US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Thursday that the United States would not take unilateral military action against Iraq if US President George W. Bush decided such action was necessary.

In an interview with CNN, Rumsfeld said the Bush administration got 90 nations to cooperate in various ways in the fight against terrorism. "It's the largest coalition in the history of humankind."

Rumsfeld said there is no reason such a coalition would not cooperate again to move against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein should Bush and the United Nations deem it necessary.

"There are dozens of countries that have supported the United States and are supporting the United States," Rumsfeld said. "In the event something is decided, I can assure you there will be a large number of countries participating."
