Top Chinese lawmaker Li Peng and Croatian parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic agreed in Beijing on Thursday to boost parliamentary cooperation and exchanges to promote economic ties between the two countries.
Bilateral contact had developed smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic relations 10 years ago, said Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
As the most important of frequent high-level visits between them, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic's meeting with Chinese President Jiang Zemin last May in Beijing had yielded fruitful results and laid a solid base for future economic cooperation between both countries, Li said.
China was willing to work with Croatia for a broader range of contacts, he said.
Tomic said his delegation, including two deputy speakers, were impressed with China's rapid economic growth, and pledged that his parliament would work for improved economic and trade cooperation between Croatia and China.
He reiterated that Croatia would, as always, strictly adhere to the one-China policy, at which Li expressed great appreciation.
