Coal Mine Blast in China's Shanxi Traps 44 Underground

A powerful gas explosion at a state-owned coal mine in China's northern province of Shanxi has trapped 44 miners underground, according to a report by China Youth Daily.

A powerful gas explosion at a state-owned coal mine in China's northern province of Shanxi has trapped 44 miners underground, according to a report by China Youth Daily.

The explosion rocked the Zhujiadian Coal Mine in Zhongyang at 4.20 p.m. on Wednesday as 52 miners were working underground.

Rescuers extricated eight miners, but the fate of the rest was unclear. Local officials were not immediately available for comment.
