Al Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (holy war), has claimed responsibility for a bus blast in northern Israel Monday afternoon,Israel Radio reported.
At least seven people were killed in the bus blast, the radio said.
The explosion, ripping through a bus of Israeli national bus company Egged, has wounded at least 30, one of them in critical condition and 5 others seriously.
First-aid workers said most of the wounded have been taken to the nearby Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera.
The blast occurred at local time 4:23 p.m. (1423 GMT) Monday near the town of Pardes Hannah, which is located about half-way between Tel Aviv and Haifa.
According to local police, the blast appears to be caused by a bomb in a car that was next to the bus at the time of the explosion.
"As far as we know at this time, a car moved alongside the bus and exploded," police spokesman Haim Bolimovski told Israel television.
The bus caught fire in the explosion, which prevented police and rescue workers from approaching the vehicle immediately, Israel Radio reported.
"I was 60 meters from the bus station...and I heard an explosion. The bus was completely shattered. I saw the bus go up inflames. It was completely wrecked," a witness told Israel Radio.
