China will firmly honor its commitments for joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) to open up various economic sectors, including the finance and insurance services, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji said Monday.
Zhu made the remarks when meeting with a delegation from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), headed by its president Richard McCormick.
Zhu said that in the first nine months, China's exports increased by 18 percent over the same period of last year, and China attracted about 50 billion US dollars in foreign investment, bucking the international economic downturn.
He said he was very optimistic for the prospects of China's economic development, adding that the economy would continue to see an annual increase of seven percent in the next few years.
The premier briefed the guests on sustainable development, noting that realizing it relied on joint efforts across the globe to strengthen science and technology cooperation and set up a just and rational international economic order and international trade system.
Zhu also extended his appreciation for the arduous work of the ICC, saying that the Chinese government valued dialogue with the business circle and encouraged Chinese enterprises to actively participate in international business organizations like the ICC.
