Al-Qaeda links with Bali bomb blasts: Defense Minister

Indonesian Defense Minister MatoriAbdul Djalil said Monday the blasts in Bali province late last Saturday that killed at least 181 and injured 311 others was associated with the international terrorist network al-Qaeda.

Indonesian Defense Minister MatoriAbdul Djalil said Monday the blasts in Bali province late last Saturday that killed at least 181 and injured 311 others was associated with the international terrorist network al-Qaeda.

"The bomb blasts in Bali have a link with al-Qaeda," the minister told a press conference in the wake of a special cabinet meeting chaired by Indonesian President Magewati Soekarnoputri.

According to Matori, the al-Qaeda network has been existed in the country, despite many parties always deny its operation here.

"I am certain that the al-Qaeda network has been harbored in the country, as there are many phenomena of their activities here," he said.

Moreover, the minister said that the security authorities have been hampered by lack of the law that upholds their effort in combating terrorism.

He stressed that the parliament should speed up issuing the anti-terrorism law, in an effort to eradicate this danger.

Similarly, Indonesian Coordinating Minister Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that the parliament has to accelerate its efforts in issuing the anti-terrorism law.

Matori added that the Indonesian government needs to strengthencooperation with international communities in combating terrorism,as the issue has been becoming the global concern.
